In picking the name for this podcast, The Accidental Missionary, I was trying to be a bit edgy and ironic, kind of like Jamie the Very Worst Missionary. The idea was to show that I felt like I got here by accident, even though it was always God’s plan for my life. Even though that is what I wanted it to convey, no one understood it…
After listening to a great episode of Podcast Quick Tips by Ray Ortega, with Dave Jackon from the School of Podcasting guest hosting, I am thinking about renaming my podcast.
Do you think that I should rename the podcast? If so, what should I call it?

Yes, I think you should rename it. I think that we can go off course from our authentic personalities when we try and do something in the name of what’s trendy (even in a missional, christian environment we have our “cool” and our “trends”). I just don’t see how “accidental missionary” really glorifies the goodness of God (and the heart of missions) or really communicates YOUR heart, from what I’ve seen you communicate over the past many years I’ve followed your work.
I personally don’t plan on being the very worst missionary (but I totally love Jaimie’s heart and work, so it’s nothing against her) but I’d rather name something based on my heart and my goals and dreams for what I put my time and energy towards, and the goal of what I want to see God do with that.

What are Bill’s dreams?
What is the very thing you’ve been gifted in to give to this world?
What are you passionate about?
What are you hoping will happen as a result of you giving your gift to the world?
Just some food for thought questions 🙂

It is a catchy title. Although I would imagine that it would only work if you were going to somehow weave that theme throughout the podcast.
In other words, it doesn’t really work well if the only meaning to the title is a background or originating idea that rarely comes up again.
But again, it does sound catchy. When I hear the title I wonder what it is all about.

Never seen that guy before, but thank you for pointing me to his site.
As of now I have not changed the name of the podcast, yet. Given what you just told me about someone else using that name, and having used it since 2010, I think that I should probably revisit the idea.
